Imagining 22 Happy Kids on Christmas Morning

By Dianne Sundstrom

I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude to all my friends, neighbors, friends of friends, and the BHCA for your very generous donations in support of my efforts in the Salvation Army’s “Adopt-a-family” Christmas program.

We outdid ourselves again, raising enough money to adopt 11 families including 22 children ranging in age from 8 months to 12 years. The need is significant; this year the Salvation Army adopted about 100 families, among 300 eligible families with 1/3 of those adopted. We can all celebrate making a significant contribution to their effort.

With the help of some intrepid shoppers, we worked off of “wish” lists for each child and delivered a bike, scooters, a wide variety of toys, books, games, crafts, and construction sets as well as clothing and shoes to the Salvation Army for distribution to the families. Each parent was given a $75 Target gift card and each family a Ralph’s food card. Donations allowed us to increase the value of food cards so a family of 3 received a $180 card.

Thanks again to Robert Bienenfeld who helping with organizing as well as tapping his pickleball group for donations - well done!

I wish all of you a healthy, safe, and peaceful 2022.
