I agree, Mike- this ordinance is too restrictive and it seems as though once again the council is trying to placate severely parking impacted neighborhoods at the expense and freedom of other neighborhoods, namely ours.

There have been several times when I have loaded up a trailer, boat, truck, etc. the previous night and parked in front of my house for an early depature the following morning. Since the ordinance would now make that illegal, I hope my neighbors are heavy sleepers when what I used to do the evening before now happens at 6am.

MY comments regarding council vote 10-10-06

In short, I am in support of Marriage Equality. done.

However, I STRONGLY oppose item b on Agenda item #29 - 6-1013 (item b). I have read the text, and can appreciate council members (Schipske, Gabelich) proactive response to a potential problem. However I do not like two aspects of this agenda item:

I find item b) too personally restrictive.
to a lesser degree, I'd rather the council work on existing problems versus "potential" problems.

More background on my postion

While in the process of researching marriage equality, I came across new parking restrictions and I am opposed to 6-1013 item b - Agenda item #29. Overall its a good concept, but item 'b) prohibit parking of any non-motorized or oversize vehicle on residential streets, between 2:00 A.M. and 5:00 A.M. and by permit at other times;' stood out. I strongly oppose. I simply don't need restrictions preventing my ability to temporarily park my personal non-comercial DMV licenced property (e.g. Boat, trailer, etc.) in front of my house overnight.

I understand some people feel parking boats, RV's etc. is problematic, and I REALLY dislike the guy (gal?) that continually moves their boat around our neighborhood (rather than pay for storage or a boat slip). But I don't live in Irvine or Cypress... and I don't want to. As written, this restriction is too encompassing. Overnight is too restrictive, and too encompassing (citywide residential streets assumes all neighborhoods are equal), and I don't know what by permit means. (pay more money?!!?!). Most residential neighborhoods were developed prior to 1960. I am not on an impacted street... and if I'm going on vacation and want to be ready the night before so I can leave at 4am, this essentially prevents me. I don't like it. And I don't want a compromise to be by permit either, unless it's free and can be obtained via the LB website (or email).

Now comes the part where I share that I do not own a boat, trailer, an RV, or any other non-motorized or oversized vehicle. But it seems likely I may live here for a long time, (over a decade so far) and I may own such a vehicle in the future.

I am likely to vote in support of this resolution. Everyone I have spoken to in the last few days is supportive of this agenda item.

If anyone would like to provide me with their comments before Tuesday's meeting, feel free to use this site and I will check at least once before then.

However, if I may make a suggestion, some councilmembers generally do not like signs, banners, etc in the council chambers. Signs can sometimes be perceived as taking away from the thoughtful, intelligent remarks that are often being made "for" or "against" a topic.

I do not live in the BH historical district, however, in our area, my neighbor and I are working to gather the information necessary to submit to the City for historical designation. We are concerned that there will be multiple historical districts in BH, unlike Cal Heights, and may be a source of confusion. What we would love to see is all of BH designated as historical. If our goal to have ALL of BH designated as historical is realized, the designs you have set forth all seem to reflect a Craftsman spirit. In our area (Second and Termino), there are fewer Craftsman and more Spanish/Mediterranean homes. I'm wondering if there is a more universal logo that can be created so that, hopefully, one day all of BH can utilize it. I am not an artist or I would put my paintbrush where my mouth is. Thanks for all your hard work!
