3700 block 5th street, FedEx theft by Domino's flyer deliverers

The guys that walk around putting junk mail in your door are also in on the package theft spree. The FedEx package was scanned as delivered at 11:45am, a man spreading Domino's flyers was seen in a red hat soon after. Then the red hat was seen through beveled glass again, and then disappeared into a van parked right in front of the porch and sped off.

The package didn't have anything valuable, but these thieves are a real nuisance!

I am putting a sign saying "No Solicitors" at my door and encourage everyone else on 5th to do the same. Maybe if we all do it, and enforce it, we will discourage opportunistic criminals from trying the various routines. Just today I heard a story from a neighbor who linked a guy asking for a magazine subscription, with the theft of their computer which happened soonafter.

We live on a quiet, friendly street. We take care of our properties and neighbors. But unwanted guests are seeing the lovely neighborhood as an easy target. Let's please try to preserve our belongings, and more importantly, our peace of mind.

UPS and USPS are informed of package problem

Craig,

I've notified mail carrier Erik and the two regular UPS delivery guys about our package problem. They will be taking more precautions. Of course, that means there is a greater chance they won't deliver if you're not home, but they are pretty good about remembering who wants parcels delivered in the event no one answers the door and who would prefer re-delivery.

I'm glad I have a PO Box for all my important stuff. But if you see a package sitting on my porch, please call, I'm usually home!

Early January 2 Creeps Posing as High School Student Solicitors

2 men ring the doorbell, Phoebe opens the door. White guy and black guy mid 20's saying they are from the "high school" and would she like to buy some men's suits or other merchandise. They carry a clipboard and a pamphlet, but don't show those materials to her. They then ask if she lives at this house.

At that stage Phoebe asked which high school they attend.
No response.
She then said "alright boys, let's see some ID"
They turned and walked down the street and didn't knock on any other doors.

Creeps on 5th Street Jan 28, silver sedan License Plate 5VJ073

Today, Jan 28 2008 1:45pm.

2 men ring the doorbell, Phoebe opens the door while on the phone. 2 Hispanic looking 30 something men at the door with hands in pockets. One grins broadly showing his array of silver teeth. The other starts mumbling something with a bad speech impediment like half his mouth isn't working (stroke? birth defect?). He is nearly unintelligible as the pointy chin says he is "from the electricity company" and something about he wants to go into the backyard. He looks around as he appears to be making up the story on the spot.

Phoebe says into the phone "there are two creepy men at the door".

They are wearing baseball caps, sweatshirts and jeans, the talker's sweatshirt is navy blue and red. A third 30 something hispanic man sits in the backseat of their silver "Low-Rider" sedan staring at the door. He is also wearing a baseball cap.

After more unintelligible asking for something, Phoebe tells them to GO AWAY. They turn around and walk to the car and drive off.

Of course, before the door closes, the puppy squeezed out and started running and jumping around, wanting to play with them. They laughed as
they sunk into the low-rider they had parked in front of the house.

LICENSE PLATE 5VJ 073, silver sedan

Package Stolen off of Porch

The thief or thieves strike again on 5th Street! UPS dropped a package off on 1/8/08 in the morning on the porch of my home at 3826 East 5th Street. My neighbor saw it there but when I got home from work, it was gone. Someone or some group is going around taking packages off of porches. UPS and other companies used to place things behind my gate and require signatures. I guess that takes more time and the companies would rather deal with claims regarding stolen merchandise. I have lived here since 1996 and this has never happened to us. We need to ALL watch out for our neighborhood and report suspicious behavior.
UPS Package Stolen off of Porch on Block of 3600 E 5th St.

I would like to inform the neighborhood that a package delivered by UPS was stolen off my front porch mid-morning on 11/28/07. It was delivered around 11:30am. I talked to a few neighbors and they did not see anybody suspicious walking around. But I talked to one neighbor that said they were home around 12pm and there was no package at my front door.

The odd thing about this theft was that when I came home there was someone else’s mail on my front porch chair and my mail was in the mailbox. I am going to assume that whoever took the package made it look like they were returning mail to my house and snatched up my package in the process.

Please be aware that this has happened a couple times on our block and with the holiday season upon us we can probably expect more cases such as this one. If there is a theft please notify the police as soon as possible.

I would advise everyone to call UPS, FedEx, and DHL and ask them not to deliver packages without a signature - of course this is just a suggestion.
